integrative approaches to pain management

Course Description: This program has been developed specifically to provide health professionals, care givers and persons with acute or chronic pain, with a variety of techniques that can be used with and or taught to enhance existing pain management modalities.  These self-initiated, pain reduction techniques are easy to learn and easy to teach. No one should have to suffer with pain and all approaches should be investigated in order to provide comfort and increase quality of life. The mind/body modality of Clinical Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis have proven to be a valuable and effective intervention addressing pain management.

You Will Learn To

  • Assist others to participate in their own pain management through a variety of methods

  • Guide others to use the breath as a tool for awareness and relaxation

  • Practice and teach physical relaxation and mind quieting techniques

  • Apply specific techniques which focus on positive self dialogue for the amelioration of pain

  • Explore the role of imagery and suggestion in the management of pain

  • Help others to integrate these pain management techniques into their everyday lives

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to define: 

  • Three aspects of the pain experience. / The effects of pain on Activities of Daily Living / 

  • Review the medical model for pain management

  • Participants will be able to recognize a minimum of three alternative adjunct interventions for pain relief 

  • That can be used in any setting

  • Participants will be able to identify and demonstrate stress and pain reduction 

  • Through breathing/relaxation techniques

  • Creating effective imagery

  • Formulating effective suggestions of pain management is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education Program (ACE). Approval Period: 1/5/17 – 1/5/19. (Provider # 1142) maintains responsibility for the program.
